Introduction of the special topic speakers

The organiser of the 99th EUROCONSTRUCT conference is proud to present the speakers on the special theme “Building Europe’s Future: Resilience, Renovation, and Recovery amidst global challenges” on 6 June 2025. The event takes place in Warsaw and an online stream is provided.

Maja Kępniak
Researcher
Warsaw University of Technology, Poland

Dr. Maja Kępniak is a research and teaching staff member at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology. For over ten years, she has focused on sustainable concrete technology, concentrating on reducing the carbon footprint and waste management in construction. She is the author and co-author of over 40 scientific publications and leads the research team Closed Cycle Composites 4 Climate.

Her research interests include sustainable building materials, waste management in construction, material optimization, and particularly ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) in construction. Notably, she is passionate about ESG initiatives and a true enthusiast of statistics, often integrating extensive statistical analysis into her work.

Szymon Firląg
Professor, Faculty of Civil Engineering
Warsaw University of Technology, Poland

Dr. Hab. Inż. Szymon Firląg is professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Warsaw University of Technology, where he is part of the sustainable development team. His research focuses on energy-efficient building technologies and climate-responsive design. He carried out research at the Passivhaus Institut in Germany, supported by fellowships from the Nowicki Foundation and the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU). With a grant from the Center for Advanced Studies at Warsaw University of Technology, he also worked at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in the United States, developing control algorithms for smart window systems.
As President of the Union of Employers – Manufacturers of Construction Materials, he cooperates closely with the National Energy Conservation Agency, Buildings Performance Institute Europe, and the Energy Conservation Foundation on projects that advance building-energy efficiency. He helped design, construct, and certify Poland’s first passive and low-energy buildings and serves as an expert for the European Research Executive Agency.
He is the author of numerous articles and books, and has participated in campaigns promoting energy-efficient construction and thermal renovation in Poland.

Associate Professor, Warsaw School of Economics

Dr. Hab. Jacek Łaszek is Associate Professor at SGH, Department of Market and Competition Analysis, College of Business Administration. Graduate and doctoral student at the Warsaw School of Economics (SGPiS), Department of Production Economics, habilitation colloquium at the SGH in 2005 on the basis of the thesis entitled ‘Residential real estate sector in Poland, condition and prospects for development. In the years 1990-1991 advisor to KERM, since 1992 in the World Bank Housing Finance Project in Poland, since 1994 Project Manager, since 1996 consultant in USAID and World Bank projects, since 1998 advisor in ING (housing bank, mortgage bank), since 2001 advisor to the President of the NBP, since 2008 manager of the real estate market team. Postgraduate studies and internships in the USA, Canada and EU countries, participant in international research programmes on mortgage banking issues, housing policy, housing market, national and international publications. His research interests are in real estate market, its financing and modelling.

Urszula Kryńska
Head of Macroeconomic Analysis

Urszula Kryńska is an economist with over 10 years of experience gained at the National Bank of Poland and Bank Millennium. She is graduate of the Warsaw School of Economics (Economics and Quantitative Methods in Economics and Information Systems), she also studied mathematics at the University of Warsaw. She deals with real economy analysis and forecasting, with a particular interest in international migration. Furthermore, she develops the use of banking data (including card transaction statistics) in macroeconomic analysis.

Krzysztof Olszewski
Economic Expert

Dr. Krzysztof Olszewski graduated from the University of Bielefeld in Management in 2005, and in 2009 he received his PhD in Economics from Ca’Foscari University in Venice. He has been working since October 2009 at the Narodowy Bank Polski. At the beginning he was involved in the analysis of foreign direct investments and human capital development.

For nearly fifteen years he has been dealing with the real estate market and the stability of the financial sector. He examines the cycles in the residential and commercial property markets, deals with the development factors of these markets and their impact on the economy. He works as an economic advisor at the Narodowy Bank Polski and cooperates with the Warsaw School of Economics.
