“Danish construction markets poised for growth as interest rates fall, despite labour shortages and sector volatility.”

Denmark’s new non-residential construction sector is emerging from a challenging downturn with projected growth in both 2025 and 2026, driven by falling interest rates and improved business confidence. While the market experienced significant declines in 2023 and 2024, the recovery trajectory shows promise across multiple segments, with double-digit growth in the construction activity on both new commercial buildings and new office buildings in 2026. The renovation and maintenance segment demonstrates particular resilience, reflecting a strategic shift toward upgrading existing buildings rather than new construction.

Despite positive growth projections, the Danish construction landscape faces structural challenges that will shape its future trajectory. Labour shortages continue to constrain sector expansion. The market’s evolution is increasingly influenced by climate adaptation priorities and environmental regulations. This dynamic environment suggests that growth will be uneven across sectors, with traditional patterns giving way to more sustainable and renovation-focused construction strategies. In the short term, however, growth and production capacity will be directed back towards new residential construction projects.
