Euroconstruct announces the forthcoming 60th Conference in Barcelona, organised by its Spanish partner: the
Catalonia Institute of Construction Technology, ITeC.
| Conference dates |
|
| |
28 and 29 November 2005 |
| |
|
| Venue |
|
| |
The Conference will be held at the Hotel Condes de Barcelona, in the very heart of Barcelona and particularly
in a location -the Passeig the Gràcia- where "Modernisme", Catalonia´s exuberant brand of Art Nouveau,
reached its peak. Just across the street from the Conference site, we find Gaudi's masterpiece of urban
residential housing -Casa Milà, also known as La Pedrera- and just a short walk seaward, another of Gaudí's
finest: Casa Batlló.

Monday, November 28th | Welcome evening
The evening will begin with a visit to the Sagrada Familia, a chance to see not only Gaudi's most acclaimed icon,
but also a singular construction site where some of the most advanced building techniques are being used to materialise
the models left by the architect after his premature death almost 80 years ago. The Modernist architectural atmosphere
will also continue during dinner, in the former Baró de Quadras Palace.
Tuesday, November 29th | Conference day
The conference will open with a series of presentations by Euroconstruct member institutes on the outlook over the next
three years in the European construction markets: with the focus on housing, non-residential and civil engineering construction.
The afternoon session after dinner will be a special discussion on the particular area of building renovation.
In the context of a building market facing many uncertainties as to its near future, we can see that the renovation
business has the potential to act as a counter-cyclical shock absorber. This said, the renovation market has a profile
of its own, quite different from that of new construction.
The session will deal with the complex mix of agents in this field -from big construction firms involved in major
rehabilitation work to individual DIYers- in order to offer a clearer picture of who is driving the renovation sector.
That will be supplemented by an analysis from the point of view of materials suppliers, and how "thinking small" may be
the key for attracting a growing public of consumers that need the same materials as large contractors, but in smaller
quantities. Finally, we will share the experience of construction companies that have opted for renovation specialitation
and have found a profitable market niche.

55th Euroconstruct Conference, Budapest Hungary
Outlook for the European Construction Sector to 2003-2005
Budapest, 6-7 June 2003
Special Topic:
Eastern European Construction Markets beyond EU Accession
Which are the advantages of an EU accession for the construction market
• in Eastern Europe?
• in the current EC-member countries?
• outside the EU?
Euroconstruct bears an outstanding importance in Europe as the only forum for the co-operation of
19 western and eastern European research institutes in the construction sector. Twice a year
Euroconstruct organises an international conference with the aim to provide decision makers in the
construction, real estate and investment markets with information, analyses and forecasts to plan
business strategy more powerful, more effectively and always up to date.
The 55th Euroconstruct conference took place in Budapest, Hungary on 6-7th June. The conference
was organised by Build&Econ, Hungary and by the Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO).
This unique construction forecast conference provided:
• Strategy. The Euroconstruct conference focused on the emerging opportunities of the new
rapidly growing construction market with more than 350 million inhabitants. Facts, construction
environment, experiences and trends were presented by top Eastern and Western European
experts.
• Documentation. All delegates received a comprehensive documentation of construction
indicators and the macro-economic performance of Euroconstruct's 19 member countries up to
2005. The construction indicators covers the three main construction sectors: residential
construction, non-residential construction and civil engineering. Lectures of the conference are also
included. For further country specific information special in depth 'Country Reports' can be ordered
seperatly (also available for the Baltic countries).
• Resources and contacts. The conference offered an opportunity to meet top decision makers in the
construction industry, financial and real estate experts, international banks, the leading contractors
and building material producers from all over Europe.
Please look at http://www.euroconstruct-budapest.com for a detailed programme.
